Well Facebooks search function for pages! Whenever I browse or search pages, the pages with THE MOST FANS come us first. And with thousands of pages…that leaves the little guys way in the back. Never to be seen or heard from. When I browse the restaurant section, I get McDonald’s as one of the top three. Booooo. I don’t like McDonald’s and I certainly don’t want to be a fan of them. Where are the good guys. The yummy spots I LOVE, but can’t seem to find?

SHIMLA: The legend of Alexander the Great lives on. In Himachal Pradesh’s sleepy Malana, a cluster of 12 villages comprising eight clans, the
mystique comes alive when its inhabitants proclaim themselves as descendants of the Greek king and speak a language only they can understand.

This may be unravelled soon: a Swedish university is in talks with the Institute of Tribal Studies of Himachal University to launch a research to understand the mysterious but small population.

Uppsala University, one of the oldest institutions Nordic countries founded in 1477, and named after the town where it is located, boasts of preserving a large number of ancient symbols that have survived even today.

Institute of Tribal Studies director P K Vaid told TOI that the project had been broadly divided into two parts – trace the origin of the language that the people of Malana, a village located at a height of 8,600 ft and considered as the oldest democracy, speak. And second, trace the origin of the people in Malana.

“Their dialect, which differs from the one spoken in the region, does not find mention even in `vanshavallis’ (ancestral tree) of Kullu kings. It is a mixture of various languages. We’ve got about 500 to 600 words that are used in their dialect and will be tracing them back to the languages from which they may have been taken. This could give us a clue to its origin,” Vaid said.

The people of Malana have their facial features that, to an extent, resemble the Romans’, Vaid claimed. Alexander the Great had defeated Indian king Porus along the banks of the Beas. After a series of campaigns on India, his soldiers felt tired and wanted to return home. Alexander, too, is said to have gone back home. Lore has it that some of his soldiers, too tired to return, preferred to settle down along the banks of the Beas and it is said residents of Malana may be their descendants.

Vivek Mohan, who has conducted over four years of study and produced a national award winning documentary `Malana’, said the answer to Malana residents’ origin remains a riddle to him.

Malana is the oldest known `republic’ in the country. The police could reach the inaccessible area only in 1996. “However, I’m convinced the settlement has nothing to do with Alexander,” he said.

Malana worships Lord Jamlu. Some historians believe Jamlu Dev comes from Jamabala Dala Shakche in Bhotti dialect, which means God of Wealth or God Against Enemies and it is He who gives them their rigid rule of governance called `ra-Deo’ (rule in the name of God).

“They are a few thousand people whose political allegiance is only to themselves and whose religious devotion focuses on their deity,” Vivek Mohan said. On their origin, Vaid claimed, since their dialect is a mixture of Sanskrit, Bhotti and Kinnauri, this alone could be the only clue to their origin.

Microsoft Corp and Yahoo Inc have agreed to an online search and advertising partnership, in an attempt to rival Google Inc, that will be announced within 24 hours, a source familiar with the situation said on Thursday.

Microsoft will not pay an upfront fee to Yahoo, and the focus of the deal is on sharing revenue between the two companies, said the source, who did not want to be identified because a formal announcement has not been made.

The news and details of the expected deal were first reported by the AllThingsDigital blog and Advertising Age. Microsoft and Yahoo declined comment. The two companies have talked for months about cooperating in the online advertising market, dominated by Google.

Microsoft tried to buy Yahoo last year but its $47.5 billion bid was rebuffed and Yahoo’s attempt to seal a search advertising deal with Google Inc fell apart under regulatory scrutiny. Under the expected deal, Microsoft’s new Bing search engine will power Yahoo’s searches, according to Advertising Age, while Yahoo will handle the advertising sales, using Microsoft technology.

Melbourne, July 30 (ANI): The Internet is growing in size every second, so that both are more addresses than there are people on earth, claims the team behind Microsoft ‘Search Engine Bing.

Bing has put the number of web pages at “over 1 trillion”, while Google had earlier indexed more than one trillion discreet web addresses.

The current global population is over 6.7 billion, that means that there are about 150 Web addresses for the person in the world.

This could mean that if a person spent only one reading minutes each Web site in existence, to follow or be kept occupied for 31,000 years without any sleep.

Average person would need one hundred thousand six decades Nonstop to read with the reading of the information Bing News.com.au quoted as saying.

Mark Higginson, director of analytics for Nielsen Online, said the global online population had jumped 16 percent since last year.

Approximately 1:46 billion people worldwide now Internet USA is that it represents a solid 16 percent increase from the previous year ’s the estimate of (1.26 billion in 2007) said.

The population of the largest Internet belongs to China, with 338 million users online, which is more than there were people in the U.S.

However InternetWorldStats.com (IWS), a Web site that combines multiple data sources, claimed that China ‘the people in line s are more like 298 million.

With the rates of India and China still quite low, there is a large quarter for growth in the coming decade, Higginson said.

But measuring the population in line could be complicated, there are users, users, per capita numbers, and percentages of penetration to be evaluated.

And so it is difficult to find a single figure to represent the online population in the world.

The combined data of IWS UN ‘the international telecommunications union of s, the Nielsen Online, the GfK survey and the office of the U.S., and its latest global figures for the number of users of the Internet in the World 1596270108.

And this is only 23.8 percent of the estimated 6.0706.993.152 people in the world. But changes daily.

According to the future, we anticipate the motive to contribute significantly to the use of the Internet, Higginson said.

Under IWS, the above 5 countries with most users of the Internet are:

1 – China (298,000,000 users, or 22.4 percent of its population)

2 – EU (227,190,989, or 74.7 percent)

3 – Japan (94,000,000, or 73.8 percent)

4 – India (81,000,000, or 7.1 percent)

5 – Brazil (67,510,400, or 34.4% percent) (ANI)

Key Lashker-e-Toiba operatives Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah are “believed to have confessed” to their involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks but Pakistani authorities are yet to make it public, a leading daily here reported on Wednesday.

Pakistani investigators have found “substantial evidence” directly connecting LeT to the November 26, 2008 attacks and proving “beyond any reasonable doubt” that it planned and financed the terror strikes, the Dawn newspaper said.

An updated dossier on Pakistani investigation handed over to India on July 11 said the material recovered from LeT camps in Karachi and the coastal town of Thatta indicated that the terrorists were provided training and weapons by the outfit.

“The investigation has established beyond any reasonable doubt that the defunct LeT activists conspired, abetted, planned, financed and established communication network to carry out terror attacks in Mumbai,” said the dossier.

The findings provided the basis for the trial which started last week of five arrested LeT operatives by an anti-terrorism court inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail.

“Lakhvi and Zarar Shah are believed to have confessed to their involvement in the attacks. But Pakistani authorities have never confirmed that publicly,” the Dawn said.

Pakistan has already charged Lakhvi, the mastermind of the attack, Zarar Shah and three other LeT men — Hammad Amin Sadiq, Mazhar Iqbal alias Al Qama and Shahid Jamil Riaz.

“There are sufficient oral, direct documentary, circumstantial and scientific evidence which directly connect the accused with the commission of the offence,” said the charge-sheet.

Lakhvi, Zarar Shah and Mazhar Iqbal have also been charged with planning, preparation and execution of the attacks and operational handling of the 10 terrorists.

Zarar Shah was in charge of communication while Iqbal (al Qama) was the main handler, the report said.

Investigators here said they had recovered handwritten diaries, training manuals, Indian maps and operational instructions from the LeT camps.

“The accused were running training camps for terrorists, providing sea and navigational training, conducting intelligence courses and directions for terrorist attack,” the dossier said.

According to the new details, training sessions, codenamed ‘Azizabad’, were held in an LeT camp in Karachi from where the investigators seized militant literature, inflatable lifeboats, detailed maps of the Indian coastline, handwritten literature on navigational training and manual of an intelligence course.

Another training camp in Thatta was housed in five thatched rooms about two kilometres from a creek from where small boats sail to the sea. The terrorists also received training in this camp.

it should not ask any more questions as enough proof has been provided in the dossiers on Mumbai attacks.

“They should not ask any more questions. Everything is contained in the dossier,” home minister P Chidambaram told reporters here when asked to comment on Pakistan’s claim that it does not have evidence to prosecute Saeed, whom India has identified as prime accused in Mumbai attacks.

“It has been a little tiresome,” he said while referring to Pakistan’s repeated claim that it does not have proof to prosecute Saeed and it has been seeking it from India.

Chidambaram said Pakistan has “enough evidence to prosecute the perpetrators… They should get on with their job.”

Pakistan’s interior minister Rahman Malik said in an interview on Wednesday, “We do not have any proof against Hafiz Saeed. We have demanded and we are demanding from India that if you have proof, give (it to) us, but do not do propaganda.”

Contending that Pakistan cannot “arrest our citizen” on the basis of “hearsay”, Malik had said “If New Delhi wants some credible action, it needs to provide substantial evidence.”
